So like I was saying, I was a little freaked out by Bruno at first because he's really big and wanted to know what I was doing all the time. He kept stealing my bones, but mama says he was just trying to say hello and I'd get scared.

We did start to hang out a little more, especially when mama and Bruno's mom got the snacks out.

I'm not really sure what's going on here. I swear we're just friends. (and mama could have told me he was TOUCHING me!!)

I don't really know what that means, but there's been lots of paper and cutting and tape and I keep getting yelled at for taking the paper and tape and stuff out of the trash. Sheesh, it's not like I ate the presents.

Anyways, mama says that because it's Christmas (and something about a new ear -- I'm not sure what that's about. I like my ears just fine) that I'm not gonna blog for the rest of the year. That seems like a really long time, but she acts like she knows what she's talking about.

I already pulled the tip off one of the dangling things on his head, and mama had to pull the insides out of the dangly thing so I wouldn't eat it, and I think I killed the squeaker, but I LOVE it!

Apparently someone who must not like me very much told mama that shaking a can with pennies inside will stop me from misbehaving. As if. Well I overheard her saying she thought it's be funny to use dried black beans. You know, because I'm Mexican?

Yeah, she's a riot.

Unfortunately those beans are LOUD and even though I try to ignore when they jump all around, they scare the bejeezus out of me!

Remember when I told you about this lady I met who was really nice and I was really excited to see?

What do you mean that sounds like everyone I meet?

THIS lady is REALLY nice and we went to see her! Mama and I were in the car forever but when we got there the lady had TWO presents for me. There was a weird squeaky moany toy that bounced around, and a stuffed bear! He was lots of fun, but mama kept telling me I couldn’t eat his eyes. What else is a bear for?

Then another lady came over and all three of them sat in front of a glowy box, so that part wasn’t very much fun.

After that we got in the car again and visited ANOTHER lady, but this lady had two little boys!! They ran ALL over the yard with me and threw a ball and a frisbee and I don’t remember much after that because I slept until the next day.

I figured something out. See, mama loooooves to pull on my leash when I take her for walks. It wasn't a big deal until she got this different collar at school that gets really tight around my neck. Now it's pretty annoying.

Well, she's always making these weird tsk-ing noises when she's pulling extra hard but yesterday I figured out that if I walk NEXT to her, she doesn't pull. Ha!

I would like to go on record that I do NOT like mama's job. Ever since I was little she stayed home with me and played with me and gave me all the attention I wanted, when I wanted it.

Now she gives me a couple hugs in the morning then leaves ALL DAY. She does take me for walks after work, but it's just not the same. I need quality time chasing my fox and my monkey and my squeaky sock.

Plus it's hard for me to turn on the glowy box without her. I hope you guys don't mind that I haven't been posting as much.

This Obedience School Thing Isn't So Bad

My first obedience school class was last night. I was nervous about it and didn't really know what to expect, but then mama left without me!

I was sure that all this talk about me learning to stop jumping and biting and sitting when I'm supposed to (I do sit most of the time, I just don't stay there very long) made me think that I'd be going to the classes, but maaaaaaybe this class is really for people.

I knew there was nothing wrong with me. It's all her!

I'm Not Strange, I'm Relaxed

There's a rumor going around that I'm weird. Or strange. Or something. I even got an award for it from Haggis, that cool Chihuahua who tries to help me out. (My mama got a couple awards too so it's not just me.)

You know how mama says I need to go to obedience school? (whatever) Apparently I start in a couple weeks, plus she read some book with a dog guy on the front so now she has all these new ways of doing things with me.

All I know is the socks are harder to get to. Not impossible, but harder.

Mama seems to think I shouldn't be in certain places in the house. Like behind the couch. I don't know why -- it's nice and cozy back there and no one bothers me.

What's your favorite breakfast food?

My meals are pretty boring. Mama gives me a scoop of these brown crunchy things in the morning and after she gets home from work, and they expect me to be satisfied with that. Ha!

I do get a lot of treats, though. Mama gives me a flake from her cereal every morning, but the BEST is when mamama gives me a chunk of her banana!

I've been getting peanut butter lately too, but I think that's coming to an end. Mama's been shoving a pill in the middle, thinking she's all sneaky, but I know what's what. I just choose the peanut butter.

Last night when mama came home from work I was jumping and spinning in circles like I always do when my head slammed into her leg and MY CONE FELL OFF! Me and mama and mamama stopped what we were doing and just stared at it for a second. It's strange how innocent it looks when it's not clutching my throat and making my life miserable.

That second passed and I REALLY jumped for joy! They kept saying something about waiting to see if I'd lick my stitches -- um, hello? I'm a dog. That's what I do. -- but I guess I passed whatever test they had because mama put my collar back on a little later.

I got a fancy new haircut earlier this week, but no one warned me they were gonna put a BOW on me!

True, it's on the side -- not my head -- and it does look kinda jaunty, but still! A bow! Thankfully mama cut it off yesterday.

To reward me for my good behavior (Mama wasn't there so she doesn't know all the sneaky stuff I pulled with those nice ladies. But we won't tell her.) she bought me a new toy!

I learned how to catch last week and I'm getting really good, so she got me something new to catch. Look! It's a monkey!

He tastes really good and he has a little string on top of his head, just like my penguin. It's turning into a zoo here!

This Growing Up Thing is Kinda Cool

I learned a new trick!

Maybe I should back up. One of my most favoritest games in the world is to grab my sock* or rope (tug-tug) or whatever and have mama or grampa or mamama pull on the other end. I'm really strong so it's fun for them too. We could do this for hours, seriously.

Last weekend mama made me drop my sock, then told me to sit in front of her, then she threw the sock at me. Not hard or anything -- it just kinda floated towards me -- and would you believe IT FELL IN MY MOUTH!

MY SOCK!

She got really excited and we've been doing this ever since. Last night she called it "catch" and I can grab my sock outta the air from three or four feet away. Mamama was talking about trying a ball next, and I can't wait!

The only thing I think I'm doing wrong is I keep trying to catch the sock with my feet. Mama said I can't do that, but that's how SHE catches things, so I don't see why I shouldn't do that too...

*They finally caved and gave me my own sock. I guess they realized it was futile to resist my powers.

Last night they were talking about a cone and wondering how I'd be able to get through my doggie door with one. Then mamama was talking about some other dog and how his cone would scoop up snow, and that sounds kind of cool.

One of my favorite things to do also gets me in a lot of trouble: digging. In Mexico we used to go to the beach a lot and I was allowed to gigantic dig holes that were nice and cool and kept me out of the sun, but HERE I get yelled at.

Mama was on the deck over the weekend and was too busy looking at her glowy box to notice what I was doing.

Lucky for me she let me stay there since I'd already dug the hole, but when the sun chased me away she was on me like a HAWK and wouldn't let me dig another. That's okay, I'll just make another one when she goes to work.

Maybe Agility Training Would Be Cool

There's this game I like to play where I run REALLY REALLY fast around and around the room, bouncing off the furniture as I go. If my people are there I go back and forth between them, but the main goal is to fly through the air and bounce off the back of the couch. Not the part where they sit on -- the back.

I first learned to do this in Mexico and I could cover ten feet with only two steps on the ground. Mama always seemed very impressed so I push myself to jump farther and farther. At our new house the couch rocks so it took a little getting used to, but now I use that movement to launch back into the air.

It's fun. Seriously.

The other night I was racing around the living room and my grampa was sitting on the couch, but instead of jumping next to him I decided to go BEHIND him. Holy moly! Can you say FUN? All three of them started laughing, so of course I did it again.

And again.

Mama said it looked like I was riding a skateboard on a ramp, whatever that means. All I know is I could jump from the ground, to the back of the couch, take two steps behind him (still on the back of the couch) then launch back to the floor.

I tried doing it where mama was sitting but I ended up diving straight into her chest. Maybe next time.

I don't know about you, but sitting pretty is not something I'm very excited about. Oh, I lift my front feet off the ground and sit straight up for her -- I DO get a treat yanno -- but I don't like it.

Like just now. She told me to sit pretty and dangled a four-inch piece of jerky in front of my nose. What was I supposed to do? I sat back, waggled my feet at her and cocked my head and she went crazy.

The cake tasted like peanut butter and carrots and I think there was some yogurt on top. Before that mama gave me this long skinny squirrel that squeaks on its tail AND head. It's so fun but I keep tripping on it.

I think there's some cake leftover, but I think I'm gonna ask for some milk to go with it.

Mama brought me to the vet yesterday for ANOTHER shot (I was very brave and wagged my tail the entire time) and while I was all exposed and vulnerable on the table, she asked the doctor about obedience classes.

I don't know WHAT she's talking about. I am perfectly obedient. It's just a matter of how quickly I listen, that's all.

I've decided that if my mama thinks she can just up and leave any old time she wants, then I'm not going to leave her side.

Ever.

Depending on what she's doing it can be a little tricky to hang on to her, but it's been cold out so that means she's wearing pants. Easy. When she's sitting I just hang on to her arms or ankles. The best is when she lies down because then I can grab onto her ears. Those things are MADE for puppy teeth! They even have crunchy things on the bottom, but mama really hollers when I try to eat those.

She still keeps slipping out for work, but I've got her covered the rest of the day.

She's Back! She's Back!

Mama and grampa and mamama all came back today! I climbed all over everyone, including the super nice people who took care of me, and then we all went home.

Home!

I ran in really fast circles around the room, played with mama outside, then took a quick nap before running all over the place again.

She hasn't told me yet where the heck she was, but I had fun while she was gone. I went for walks, got to jump in and out of a really high doggy door, and I discovered GOOSE POOP! Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?

Mama got me all distracted with playing games and I totally forgot to tell you about my trip to see my grammama!

First of all, we were in the car for a really long time and no one would let me sit where I wanted. Mama was in the back with me, but I wanted to be up front. Then in back again. Then in front again.

What? I'm a puppy.

We FINALLY got to this place with really green grass and lots of sticks, but we passed all that pretty fast and went inside. I was super excited to be there (that's pretty much my MO) and I tried to race through the house but mama kept me on a leash. We wound through the house to where this lady who was lounging in bed in the middle of the day! And they wouldn't let me jump up! Believe me, I tried, but mama wasn't giving in.

Later the lady -- they told me SHE'S my grammama -- came into the living room and I got to climb all over her and give her lots of kisses. She wasn't mean like the lady in Mexico -- my grammama let me jump up and chew on her arms (but only a little) and then she started taking pictures.

I'm sorry, I really like her and all, but I cannot sit still for pictures. I think she eventually got one when mama tricked me into staring at a toy, but I'm sure it's blurry. It's a skill I have.

Grammama gave me lots of cuddles and even threw my tug-tug for me! I can't wait until we get to visit her again.

Mama has been really annoying lately. She keeps dragging boxes into MY room, then throwing things all over MY couch. She says she's doing something with some organs or something... I don't know, I stopped listening when FOUR pairs of socks hit the floor.

She finally made a space for me on the couch. It took several tries for her to get the hint -- I kept jumping on the couch then lifting my legs daintily like I wasn't quite sure where to rest them, and she FINALLY moved a pile. Sheesh, woman.

I should cut her a little slack though. She did let me sleep while she watched a movie.

I don't know what mama gets so worked up about sometimes. She wakes up when it's still dark outside and turns on this different glowy box that has people jumping around inside. They were in Mexico, too, but they were a lot smaller.

Anyway, normally I stay in bed when she plays with her glowy friends, but the other day I was wide awake for some reason (at least that's what mama kept saying) and decided to help.

She does this thing where she lays on her back then lifts her arms and legs, so I helped her keep her head on the floor. My paws were clean so I don't know why she pushed me away. It's not like my foot went IN her eye. Or mouth. Or ear.

Then she flipped onto her belly and started lifting her legs again. Perfect! I tried to help her hold her arms on the ground, but she started laughing at me.

Would you laugh at this face?

For the past two weeks my mama keeps tackling me, pinning me to the ground, then shoving a little white thing down my throat. I've tried a zillion times to ask her WHY she keeps doing it, but then she distracts me with cuddles and I forget about it.

Until she does it again.

Sometimes she makes grampa and mamama help, and last night she tricked me and threw it down my throat while I was trying to play.

Mama brought me to the doctor's last weekend. It's different from my doctor in Mexico -- for one thing it's all women and they give me treats! They gave me a shot and poked me all over, then mama and I went out to the bigger room where I played with two other dogs, a little girl, and a man who didn't seem to hear me.

Then the doctor came back out and mama put me on her back, THEN they started poking me DOWN THERE. I couldn't understand what they were talking about, but I think it must have been something about my poop because she kept asking if I'd had a new turd.

Whatever that means.

I'm just happy mama gave me some new toys.

We had a busy weekend! Mama took me to see her sister and a bunch of something she called TEENAGERS but there wasn't a computer so I couldn't write my post.

My Mama's Mama

I talk a lot about my mama and my papa and my other papa, but there's another person here -- my mama's mama! She doesn't like to get in pictures so I get distracted when I write my posts because I don't SEE her, but she's one of my favorite things about this Michigan place.

Her hands always have this yummy lotion that she lets me lick, and every morning I jump on her until she gives me a banana. She gives me treats like my mama and papa, but they used to break it into little tiny pieces. My mamama gives me the WHOLE THING!

She doesn't like it when I bite her, and I swear I don't mean to (I just get EXCITED) but she plays with my tug-tug (that rope thing) and throws my squeaky toys until I get tired. Then she lets me lean on her while she plays on her glowy box.

A Penguin of My Own

So where was I?

Right. After the grassy place we got in the car and they brought me to what mama called "a store."

I'd never been inside a store like this before. Back home the only places I'd been inside didn't have doors -- they just had an open wall and you could see inside from the street. But this place had slippery floors and I could smell that LOTS of other dogs visited before.

Mama and Penguin followed me around until I found bone heaven. I'm telling you, there were more bones than I could ever dream of and some of them were as big as me!

We went to another row where they had all the squeaky toys a dog can dream of, when suddenly a GIANT dog came around the corner. I was scared of him at first, but he laid down on the floor so I knew it was okay to talk to him.

Penguin picked up every toy I liked. Mama kept telling him not to buy me so many things -- something about being "spoiled", whatever that means -- but lucky for me he didn't listen.

Look what I got! That tall thing in the back -- it's a Penguin!

Mama keeps laughing at the squirrel but I really don't understand what's so funny about it. I'm just happy that it squeaks in TWO places!

My mama took me for a ride in her car and when we stopped this guy got in the car with us. I didn't know what to think at first but after a couple seconds I raced over to him and said my hellos.

Mama told me it was Penguin!

Apparently my mama's known him for 13 years but this is the first time I got to meet him.

We rode to a place by the river with lots of grass and old french fries. Penguin held onto my leash, which was kinda cool because he's a lot taller than mama and my leash didn't get tangled on my head like it does with her.

We played with my frisbee that I LOVE and I got to watch lots of people. Some were even running like my papa!

I took a little break from all the running but there was no way I was gonna let go of my frisbee.

I had a lot of fun with him, even if he wouldn't share his sandwich with me. I tried all my best moves, too! Licking, diversion, dive bombing... nothing!

After the park we got back in the car and went to--

The Hole in the Floor

There's something in this house that I've been afraid to tell you about.

The floor...

well...

it has a HOLE in it. They put this white metal thing over it but I can see into the basement and there are all kinds of creepy noises that come through it.

It wouldn't be a big deal except my mama sometimes throws my toys on it -- she swears she doesn't do it on purpose -- and then she expects me to take it from there.

But it's a hole!

I'm a brave dog so I grab it and run back to her, but it sometimes takes a little while to work up my courage. Especially when it starts hissing and breathing hot air at me!

Mama moved all our stuff in the dark cement room under where gramma and grampa live, but it's not so bad. She put this soft green thing on the couch and I get to lay all over it. Sometimes she tries to put papers and stuff on there, but I just "accidentally" knock them off.

She'll learn soon enough.

Her glowy box sits on that table next to the couch, so I get to watch her as long as I want. In between naps, of course.

Nadine wanted to know what I do all day now that my mama keeps leaving me (we'll talk about THAT another time). My grampa plays with me some, but he keeps telling me to entertain myself. The trouble is, it's hard to play by myself.

My friend Penguin told my mama to get me a rope and it was a GREAT idea! I love playing tug-tug and whipping it all over the house, but it's no fun without someone to play with. I poke it and bite it, but it just lays there.
